Mutantspace Arts Skills Exchange Free Music And Poetry Weekend 17 -19 May

Mutantspace arts skills exchange is hosting The Mutant Cabaret with an eclectic mix of slam poetry, short story readings and music. We’ll be hosting poetry, music and short stories from Gifted Eccentric, Pearse McGloughlin, Colm Scully, Conor McManus, Roy haler, Sue Cosgrove, Cormac O’Caoimh, Stuart Wilde, Kathy D’Arcy and all MCed by Wasps Vs Humans who will also be doing an excerpt from his new show ‘Influence Me’ which links his work to the poetry of John Cooper Clarke, Joy Division, The Fall and Dylan Thomas.

We’ll also hosting The Urchin Collective on Saturday night at Gulp’d Cafe in Cork at 8pm. The collective is a movement of independent musicians operating in the genres of avant garde electronica, folk, Irish language, trad, alternative and indie. Following the collective’s launch in March, Urchin will featuring performances from Fia Rua, Stephen James Smith, Enda Reilly and the newly formed Idiot Songs (Justin Grounds and Pearse McGloughlin).

Finally on Sunday we’ll be putting on Cormac O’Caoimh and Stuart Wilde.
Cormac O’Caoimh is a singer-songwriter and classical guitarist whose intimate vocals and exquisite guitar playing is attracting the attention of musicians and music lovers alike. He’s been picking up some well-known admirers along the way including Ron Sexsmith and Tom Robinson from the BBC.

Stuart Wilde’s music on the other hand is unique, dark, heartfelt and full of tender stories of lost love, shadow worlds, dirty dishes, the sea and crows. His shows are always thought provoking and engaging as he bangs out his blues on a guitar and stomp box. Stuart’s style of music is totally unique, quirky and atmospheric. Any fan of Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen should check out this album

Music Gigs On this Week At The Roundy Upstairs In The Heart Of Cork City

A bit late this week with our Goldiefish gigs but here’s what’s going on for the rest of the week at The Roundy. We’ve a mixed bag this week with poetry and music so if you’re looking for a good, and possibly different night out why not check out The Roundy bar on Castle Street. Smack in the heart of the City. Wednesday 17th April
UCC Capriccio night
Doors: 9pm
Free in
The Capriccio Sessions: a series of stripped back gigs showcasing the best of UCC’s up and coming musical talent. Held on the first Wednesday of every month in the Roundy these gigs provide the perfect setting for those who want to see some of Corks finest musicians in an intimate and relaxed environment. And best of all it’s completely free.

Thursday 18th April
The David O’ Connor Jazz Trio
Doors: 9pm
Tickets: €5
The David O’ Connor Jazz Trio have been playing jazz together for the past year. The current version of the group features Cork jazz scene veteran Niall Marron on drums and up-and-coming bassist Niall McGuinness. The group is lead by guitarist David O’ Connor, and plays blues, bebop and swing standards. At this gig, the band will play several tunes popularised by iconic jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, including ‘Far Wes’ and ‘SKJ’.

Friday 19th April
Porn For The Blind
Doors: 9pm
Tickets: €5
Porn For The Blind are an eclectic musical group that hail from Cork city in Ireland. Their music spans and fuses rock, folk, psychedelic and electronic music. The band are one of Corks hot up and coming bands.
